Planning for Real is a highly participative planning tool designed to get residents involved in having a say about the issues and problems in their local area. Organised in conjunction with Voluntary Action Leicester (VAL) a three dimensional model of Saffron is currently being built at the Newry and Marriott primary schools. Once complete the model will be used as a consultation tool to help residents highlight local issues that need addressing.
Planning for Real offers an excellent way of engaging with residents. The finished model will be used in a series of consultation sessions over the coming months. At these events the model is laid out with cards placed around it which people can use to pinpoint problem areas and show what they want. Residents will then be invited to an event whereby all of the information collected is prioritised and key service providers are invited to discuss proposals with residents. An action plan will then be written up to capture the data collected from the process and assist in both shaping the work of key agencies and the development of the forthcoming Neighbourhood Management delivery plan.
