Kingfisher Youth Centre Development January - April 2007

Aims & Objectives

Kingfisher Youth Centre Development 1

An exciting initiative for Saffron is the development of a disused area of land surrounding the Kingfisher Youth Centre. The project is seeking to address the lack of youth provision in the area and will enable young people to use the area as a space to play and meet with friends.
The existing ball court has been resurfaced and sports equipment has been provided after consultation with young people. The new facilities will have open access enabling young people to meet socially at any time, even when the Kingfisher Youth Centre building is closed.

Outcomes

Kingfisher Youth Centre Development 2

The project is nearing completion and staff at the Kingfisher Youth Centre are currently planning an opening event. It is hoped that the development may divert young people away from playing and congregating in the residential streets in the area and also from criminal damage and other forms of anti-social behaviour.

Fiona Bedford Senior Youth Worker at the centre said “We really welcome this development. It is a fantastic opportunity for young people and others in the area to be able to play sport and in the future we hope to use the new facilities to offer a variety of courses such as the sports leadership award.”
