Leicester's Local Area Agreement 2008-2011 (LAA) between Leicester and the Government was signed on the 30th June 2008. You can download it at the bottom of this page.
The LAA is the delivery plan to implement the first three years of the city’s sustainable community strategy One Leicester – Shaping Britain’s sustainable city. It’s an agreement between the partners in the city and central government which sets out our priorities for Leicester and targets for improvement over the next three years.
The new arrangements for the Local Area Agreement help to simplify some central funding and monitoring, cut down on bureaucracy, join up public services more effectively and allow greater flexibility for local solutions to local circumstances. The government want to see a shift in emphasis from public bodies being mainly accountable to central government – to being more accountable to local people themselves.
The LAA contains 58 targets that we are committed to achieving in the next three years. The targets cover a wide range of priorities such as reducing crime, strengthening communities, improving health, improving skills and educational attainment, getting people into jobs, improving housing, supporting vulnerable people and tackling climate change. And all of the key agencies in the city will be working together towards these priorities, using pooled resources and evidence based commissioning of services and programmes.
